Nanchang is situated on the banks of Gan river so you will see this river on a lot of places in the city. Gan river has been used for transport since ancient times and was one of the reasons why Nanchang became so important in China. Gan river starts in the south west of poyang lake and reach all the way down to the south of China. The river is 885km long and connects Jiangxi with Poyang lake and the big Yangtze river.
