Ba Yi Square is a famous square in the middle of Nanchang. From here you'll see most of the hotels and are just five minutes away from the tengwang pavillion .
The name Bay-yi means eight one in chinese. This name comes from the uprising by the public army the 1:st of august 1927. So in modern China, the army is also known as ba-yi(Eight One) army. The PLA(People Liberation Army) logo consists of the letters for ba-yi. The uprising where done by soldiers led by Zhu De and Zhou Enlai who started a mutineer against KMT(Kuomintang) in Nanchang. They where beaten, but many of these soldiers escaped to the Jinggang Mountains along the border of Hunan and Jiangxi provinces. Here they built up the Red Army. Zhu De is considered as the founder of the Red Army.
